Travelling with Diabetes

NDSS-travelling-startGoing on holidays and travelling should be a fun filled experience, and travel plans should not be limited because you have diabetes. With some extra planning you can relax and enjoy your holiday.

The Travelling with Diabetes program will cover:

  • some general situations you need to prepare for,
  • specific information for travel by air and road.

This program should not replace any recommendations provided by your diabetes team. It will take approximately 12 minutes to complete and consists of a video and links to more resources.

How Diabetes Can Affect Your Body

ndss-diabetes-your-body-startThis program aims to help people understand how diabetes can affect your body. This information is suitable for people living with type 1 and type 2 diabetes..

The How Diabetes Can Affect Your Body program will cover:

  • how diabetes complications occur,
  • the types of complications that may occur, and
  • how to prevent or delay the onset of the complications.

This program should not replace any recommendations provided by your diabetes team. This program will take approximately 10 minutes to complete and consists of a video, some written information and links to more resources.

This program aims to help people understand hypoglycaemia. This information is not only suitable for people living with diabetes but for all members of the community.

The Hypoglycaemia program will cover:

  • what is hypoglycaemia,
  • who is at risk of hypoglycaemia,
  • the signs and symptoms of hypoglycaemia,
  • how to manage hypoglycaemia and emergency situations.

This program should not replace any recommendations provided by your diabetes team. This program will take approximately 10 minutes to complete and consists of a video, some written information and links to more resources.

ndss-healthy-eating-startHealthy Eating

This program is aimed at helping you to understand diabetes and the healthy eating recommendations for diabetes management.

The Healthy Eating program will cover:

  • healthy eating recommendations for the whole population,
  • the impact of carbohydrate foods on blood glucose levels,
  • understanding food labels,
  • how to find healthy foods in the supermarket.

This program provides general recommendations only. For individual advice on the dietary management of diabetes, it is important to seek expert advice from an Accredited Practising Dietitian. This program will take about 20 minutes to complete and consists of videos and a quiz at the end of the program.

ndss-gd-startGestational Diabetes

This program aims to help you to understand gestational diabetes and how it can be managed to help reduce the short and long-term risks associated with gestational diabetes.

The Gestational Diabetes program will cover:

  • an overview including risk factors,
  • screening and potential risks associated with gestational diabetes,
  • general management guidelines including blood glucose monitoring,
  • healthy eating recommendations, physical activity, medications, antenatal checks and reducing your risk of type 2 diabetes.

This program should not replace any recommendations provided by your diabetes team. This program will take approximately 20 minutes to complete and consists of videos, some written information and links to more resources.
