National Diabetes Week 2016

NDW16National Diabetes Week (10 – 16 July) aims to raise the awareness of diabetes in the community. Diabetes is Australia's fastest growing chronic condition and there are more than 100,000 South Australians diagnosed with diabetes (as at 31 March 2016).

Understanding diabetes complications

This year, Diabetes SA will be focusing on increasing the awareness and greater understanding of diabetes while highlighting the many different aspects of diabetes management to support people and families affected by diabetes:

A new resource has been launched to raise awareness of cardiovascular disease and its link to diabetes

There is no single cause for cardiovascular disease (CVD), but there are many risk factors including living with diabetes. If you have one risk factor, you're likely to have others. Fortunately a majority of CVD risk factors can be managed, treated or modified. However some cannot be changed.

Support Diabetes SA

Last year, Diabetes SA distributed well over 20,000 resources in total to health professionals leading up to the week to raise awareness about diabetes, and in fact had to undertake another print run of our highly successful brochure 'Diabetes Know Your Type'. A media release was distributed throughout the MediaNet network, addressing the importance of greater public understanding of the different types of diabetes, as 97% of people believe the majority of public still need to be educated and informed. Our National Diabetes Week social media awareness campaign reached over 60,000 people, we featured several updates, including videos, to help raise awareness about diabetes and its different types.

At Diabetes SA, we pride ourselves on being able to provide vital services and programs to people living with diabetes. However, as a non-government funded charity, we can't do it alone!
