JDRF One Ride

Using pedal power to accelerate T1D research

jdrfJDRF One Ride is a global cycling event to raise funds for type 1 diabetes (T1D) and 2018 marks the 15th anniversary of the event in Australia. Next April, some of Australia's top businesses will send a team to South Australia's stunning Barossa Valley to raise funds for vital medical research. While challenging themselves on a demanding cycling route through remarkable scenery, the cyclists will help speed life-changing breakthroughs for Aussies living with the disease.

T1D is an autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas loses the ability to produce insulin, a hormone that turns food into energy.

T1D strikes both children and adults suddenly. It is not caused by diet or lifestyle. People with T1D require constant blood glucose testing through painful finger pricks, and a constant supply of insulin by injection or pump, just to stay alive.

The funds raised at One Ride are vital to JDRF's continued funding for research. More than 120,000 Australians live with this lifelong disease - until we find a cure.

Riders are supported by JDRF during their training and fundraising for One Ride, and of course on the weekend itself. The event offers a choice of professionally-managed cycling routes - 35, 80, 120 or 160km - and attracts a lively group from bike fanatics to beginner cyclists, from a variety of businesses and backgrounds.

One Ride will take over the Novotel Barossa Valley for the whole weekend, including a convenient start and finish from the hotel itself. Ride straight back into the venue after your big day and enjoy all of the onsite comforts.

It's a weekend where the love of cycling meets lasting camaraderie and the shared goal of achieving something great. Your involvement in the Ride will power T1D research and help JDRF speed life-changing breakthroughs for Australians living with this disease.

So what are you waiting for? Bike it up for a full weekend, Friday April 20-Sunday April 22 2018. Or join us for an extraordinary Saturday April 21 2018.

Register today at ride.jdrf.org.au and join a passionate corporate and philanthropic community for an indulgent, inspiring weekend away that's changing lives.

See you there.

Yours sincerely,
Tamara Aitchison
