Australia's Healthy Weight Week

Australia's 'Healthy Weight Week will be transformed in 2018 into Smart Eating Week (12-18 February 2018).

We will bring more information in early February 2018.

Australia's Healthy Weight Week aims to increase the awareness of the importance of achieving and maintaining a healthy weight and lifestyle.

Get inspired

The Dietitians Association of Australia wants to inspire all Australians to cook more healthy meals at home more often. Research shows that when you cook more meals at home, you are more likely to eat smaller portions and take in fewer kilojoules / calories, less fat, salt and sugar; all of which contribute to a healthier weight. At the end of the day you have control over the ingredients and how much you serve up, so you're more likely to eat healthier foods in the right amounts for your body's needs.

Get cooking

For some inspiration, download Australia's Healthy Weight Week Cookbook, developed by MasterChef All Stars winner, Callum Hann, and Accredited Practising Dietitian, Themis Chryssidis from Sprout and take the cooking challenge this Healthy Weight Week.

Additionally, watch the webcast from 2016 Food and Health Seminar including a cooking demonstration where our Accredited Practising Dietitian and Health Promotion Officer made zucchini pasta with avocado and Brazil nuts.

Diabetes SA Cooking at Home Challenge

This year Diabetes SA is participating in Healthy Weight Week by encouraging you to get involved in a Cooking at Home Challenge and some fun and interesting challenges throughout the week.

Make one healthy meal a day at home

To participate in the Cooking at Home Challenge, simply make one healthy meal a day at home. This could be a healthy breakfast, bringing a healthy lunchbox from home to work or of course cooking a healthy dinner for you and your family.

Eat smarter

By doing this, you will be consuming more whole foods which contain vitamins, minerals, fibre and antioxidants which are all very beneficial to our health and will also help us feel well.

Can you eat five serves of vegetables each day?

During the week, we will be sharing tips and information on how to make your meals healthier and tastier. If you already are making healthy meals at home, why not challenge yourself by taking the 'Veg Pledge' which means trying to get five serves or more of vegetables each day.
