Webcast available: Fats & Fads

fats-fadsFood and Health Seminar

Diabetes SA is proud to offer a selection of our education seminars and sessions online, including the recording of the 2016 Food and Health Seminar 'Fats & Fads' seminar from 20 February 2016.

There is so much conflicting advice out there about fats and with the introduction of many fad diets and fad foods, it can make healthy eating confusing and leave you unsure of what to eat. Guest speakers Dr Welma Stonehouse, Senior Research Scientist and Pennie Taylor, Senior Research Dietitian, both from the CSIRO discussed the importance of healthy fats found in eggs, olive oil, fish, nuts and avocado as well as fad diets and fad foods like the paleo diet, Atkins diet, gluten free diet, coconut products, butter and more.

To tie everything together, staff from the Health Services team at Diabetes SA finished off the seminar by conducting an interactive cooking demonstration.

CC-blue-crewDiabetes SA has now commenced a new phase of its Donate & Educate program with the introduction of the Blue Crew concept which has been created for our expansion into primary schools.

The program will see the organisation working with primary schools around metropolitan Adelaide with the placement of a signature blue bin for the donation of pre-loved clothing and other items. With a convenient way to donate it is hoped that the program can become successful as well as promote re-use and recycling while supporting a worthy cause.

We are now also happy to announce our first schools participating in the program as Burton Primary School and One Tree Hill Primary School and hope there are many more to follow.

If you are involved with a primary school that is interested in finding out more about this program then contact the organisation on 8234 1977 selecting option 6. Our Program Coordinator will be happy to answer any questions.
