Diabetes SA – Many ways you can make a difference

As a non-government funded charity, Diabetes SA relies heavily on the support of our members and the community. This support plays a vital role in funding activities to raise awareness of diabetes, and to continue helping people living with diabetes in South Australia.
For some, cash donations are not always a possibility, and as a result we are very excited to announce a new way of donating your unwanted shares through ShareGift Australia.

ShareGift Australia working to help the community

ShareGiftShareGift Australia is a not-for-profit organisation that provides shareholders with an easy way to sell their shares and donate the proceeds to charity. Selling and donating through ShareGift Australia means you don't have to engage a stockbroker, there are no brokerage fees and should the proceeds of the sale exceed $50.00, you can easily nominate Diabetes SA to benefit from ShareGift Australia's donations.

The process

It's straightforward and shareholders can receive a tax deduction for donations over $2.00.

  1. Download and complete the share sale donation form available on the ShareGift Australia website (remember to recommend Diabetes SA).
  2. Send the signed form directly to ShareGift Australia either by scanning via email to mailto: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or post to GPO Box 4370 Melbourne VIC 3001.
  3. ShareGift Australia will manage the sale of the shares through one of their supporting brokers and once completed, send you a receipt for tax purposes.

Each quarter, the ShareGift Australia Board donates the share sale proceeds to charities, guided by the recommendations received from shareholders. Donations are aggregated and rounded up, taking into account the value of the shares donated and the number of recommendations received for each eligible charity. To date all eligible charities nominated have received donations from ShareGift Australia in excess of the amount recommended.

ShareGift Australia is a public ancillary fund with Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status which allows for the deductibility of donations. This means they are governed by legal requirements which prevent them from passing on the exact proceeds of each share sale directly to a shareholder's recommended charity.
